Permits and taxes in Middelkerke

Middelkerke clearly separates a second residence from operating a tourist accommodation — each has its own tax regulation.

We cover: Middelkerke, Westende, Lombardsijde, Leffinge, Slijpe, Sint-Pieters-Kapelle, Mannekensvere, Schore and Wilskerke

  • Second-residence tax (tax years 2026-2031): €850 per year for a studio up to 40 m², €950 per year for all other second residences. Joint ownership is apportioned.
  • Operating a tourist accommodation falls under a separate “operating tourist lodging” tax regulation for the same tax years — ask the municipality for the applicable rate.
  • Both regulations are published in full in the municipality's regulations database.
  • Every accommodation you rent to tourists for payment must be registered with Toerisme Vlaanderen. Baseline conditions include a fire-safety certificate, fire and liability insurance, and an ownership or lease title that allows tourist letting.
