- In Wallonia every tourist accommodation must be registered with Tourisme Wallonie (Commissariat général au Tourisme). You receive a registration number, and names such as “gîte” and “meublé de vacances” are protected.

- Since 30 January 2023, creating a new hébergement touristique de terroir (gîte or meublé de vacances) requires a communal urbanism permit — precisely so tourist communes can steer density.
